Department of Public Basic Education
The Department of Public Basic Education (hereinafter referred to as “the Department”) is a department responsible for the teaching management of the public basic courses of Moutai Institute. There are four teaching units: Mathematics Teaching and Researching Section, College English Teaching and Researching Section, Physical Education Teaching and Researching Section and Literature and Art Teaching and Researching Section. The Department mainly undertakes the basic courses for the undergraduate students, including 3 “Advanced Mathematics” courses, “College P.E.”, “College English”, and “College Chinese” etc. In addition to the curriculum of each department’s program, the Department, based on fostering character and civic virtue and comprehensive ability development, gives great impetus to the curriculum development, offering over 10 basic courses and general courses of humanities such as “Liquor Anthropology”, “Poetry, Calligraphy, Painting and Seal Engraving”, “Introduction to European Culture”, “Appreciation of Movie and Video Literature”, “Art and Thinking”, “Appreciation of Classical Music”, “Appreciation of Pop Music”, “Introduction to Phonetics”, “Appreciation of the Analects of Confucius”, “Appreciation of Folk Music”, “Appreciation of World Famous Paintings”, “English Movie Appreciation”, “English Public Speaking” and “Selected Topics of College Advanced Mathematics” etc.
During the curriculum construction and teaching practice, the Department is focusing on quality education, actively carrying out the reform and exploration of the teaching model, teaching content, and teaching methods, insisting on the teaching standardization, paying attention to the teaching effect, and constantly improving the teaching methods in the teaching practice, obtaining excellent teaching effect accordingly.
The Department currently has 32 full-time teachers, including 4 professors (1 second-grade professor and 1 third-grade professor), 2 associate professors, 10 lecturers and 16 teaching assistants, of whom there are 2 provincial management experts, 1 municipal expert and 1 provincial prominent educator. The faculty hold master’s degree or above. They make up a teaching staff with a reasonable structure in age, professional title and education, excellent comprehensive quality, dedication and full of reform and innovation. According to the construction plan of “three one-thirds” of Moutai Institute’s teaching staff, the Department has a relatively adequate teaching staff reserve team in each curriculum group, which has laid a solid foundation for the construction and development of the Institute’s basic courses.
According to the talents training mode and objective of Moutai Institute, the Department, based on the principle of “serving for the professionals and serving for the students”, takes initiative to learn about different requirements of each professional for the general and basic courses, exploring and researching the learning mode and learning methods for application-oriented college students to learn the general and basic courses, encouraging teachers to carry out curriculum teaching reform, and studying so as to promote the comprehensive quality and core competence of the students. The Department attaches its object and purpose to improving the students’ political morality and physical quality, enhancing their theoretical thinking ability and cultural perception ability, helping them master modern knowledge and skills to support the training of the high-level liquor-brewing talents. Through the strict teaching management to deepen the teaching reform, the Department makes efforts to enable the teaching closer to the times, to the social reality, and to the students’ thoughts and professional practice, exploring the teaching rule of public basic courses under the characteristics of “small, high, precise”, and making basic courses teaching an indispensable part of the Institute’s training the first-class liquor-brewing talents.
While attaching importance to teaching practice, the Department also places great importance on the cultivation and improvement of students’ comprehensive quality as well as the construction and development of the extracurricular activities. For instance, the Department yearly organizes various sports competitions, discipline competitions and other extracurricular activities, and also actively assists the Institute in organizing colorful campus cultural activities, which greatly enrich the campus cultural atmosphere.
At present, all the staff of the Department are closely centering on the development plan of the Institute, adhering to the fine tradition, keeping reform and innovation, continuing to deepen the connotation construction, further improving the quality of education and teaching, and successfully promoting the Department’s curriculum teaching, discipline competition and campus culture construction to a new level.
